Average vs Normal—Separate and Distinct

Every organism is as different on the inside as it is on the outside.
Every organism is as different on the inside as it is on the outside.

Chiropractic has a unique perspective. When understood, spinal care does not overlap with medical care or for that matter even “healthcare” are large.

Medicine, with its diagnostic tools and pharmaceutical interventions, often operates on the principle of establishing national averages. These averages, derived from population studies, are used to assess patient health and guide treatment protocols. This makes for a standardized model of the human body. It aims to conform patients to a predetermined set of norms by focusing on measures like blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and bone density or more subjective symptoms like pain and inflammation. This approach, while sometimes necessary, can sometimes overlook the subtle nuances of individual physiology.

In contrast, chiropractic steps outside of "healthcare" with a fundamentally different and unique perspective. It recognizes the inherent individuality of the human organism, acknowledging that each person possesses a unique biochemical and neurological makeup. Rather than striving to fit patients into a statistical mold, chiropractic focuses on restoring and optimizing the body's innate capacity for self-regulation and healing. This philosophy is rooted in the understanding that the nervous system, as the body's master control system, plays a pivotal role in maintaining overall health. This makes chiropractic separate and distinct no matter what medical or therapeutic intervention one may concurrently take.

Chiropractic's emphasis on the body's ability to normalize itself on a day-to-day basis stems from the recognition of its inherent adaptability. The body is constantly engaged in a dynamic process of homeostasis, adjusting to internal and external stressors. When the nervous system is functioning optimally, the body can effectively coordinate these self-regulatory processes. Excess modern stressors cause a situation whereby the vertebral bones become malpositioned and therby block normal nerve supply. Chiropractic adjustments aim to remove vertebral malpositions which interfere with nerve function. This facilitates the body's neuro-spinal connections and allows the body to more independently regulate its own natural healing mechanisms.

This individualized approach acknowledges that optimal health is not a static state, but rather a dynamic equilibrium unique to each person. While medical averages provide valuable guidelines, they cannot fully capture the complexity of human physiology. Chiropractic, by focusing on restoring proper vertebral position and neuro-spinal connection, empowers the body to achieve its own individualized state of optimal health, rather than forcing conformity to a general standard. This recognition of individual variability enables a more personalized and holistic approach to life and body/brain function.
